The Best of London Design Festival

OXO Tower

The annual London Design Festival celebrates the very best of British design, and exists to help promote London as the design capital of the globe. Supported by the V&A and the Mayor of London, there’s lots to see and experience while visiting London. This year’s event looks set to be every bit as spectacular as former events – here’s a quick look at the best of what to expect…

When is the London Design Festival?

The event takes place between 14th – 22nd September 2019, and will include a variety of venues and specially designated ‘design districts’ throughout the city. For the full programme, take a look at the official London Design Festival website.

Peter Jones & Partners: the history of their building

14th – 22nd September 2019

One of the most popular department stores in Chelsea, Peter Jones will be hosting this pop-up exhibition as part of London Design Festival. The event will showcase the history of the Grade II listed Peter Jones building, and provides a great way to get closer to London’s working design culture while staying at the San Domenico House Hotel. First opened in 1877, the store has undergone many changes since, while still retaining the original character of the building.

Morgan: Art & Design Exhibition

16th – 22nd September 2019

This exhibition will focus on an installation by David Shillinglaw, as well as exhibiting the latest products from the brand. The exhibit provides a colourful new display titled ‘Alive in the Human Hive’, and has been intended to demonstrate the variety and shared experience of human life, with architectural elements and handcrafted pieces.

Oxo Tower Wharf: London Design Festival

11th – 22nd September 2019

Covering three floors, the London Design Festival will be celebrated at the Oxo Tower this September. Events include a variety of interactive activities and exhibitions, focusing on the work of students at the University for the Creative Arts, as well as a celebration of Tokyo paper artisans and private viewings from Studio Fusion Gallery. With designs from some of the UK’s most promising and dynamic talent, this is a great addition to your trip to the San Domenico House Hotel.

London Interior Show

15th – 17th September 2019

An independent trade show with big appeal, the London Interior Show gives visitors a sneak peek at the designers who are already making waves in the city’s design scene. Only 24 brands have been selected to take part, ensuring a carefully curated show which includes both established talent and emerging new creatives, providing lots to see while enjoying romantic hotel deals in London.

Design Routes / Design Districts

In addition to the major exhibitions and events, the London Design Festival is championing Design Districts and Design Routes, with activities and location-specific events which support the local creative communities in each area. Some are only a short walking distance from one another, with Brixton, Paddington and King’s Cross each featuring prominently.
